"Connection Timed Out" Error

The error "connection timed out", "Connection timed out", or "cannot reach server" indicates that your email program tried to connect to the server but received no response. It is different from an authentication error: here the password hasn't even been tried yet, because contact with the server couldn't be established. The cause is usually the network, the port, or the server address.

1. Test your internet connection: Try opening https://mail.gelecekint.com in a browser. If the page opens, your internet and the server are working; the problem is in your program's settings. If the page doesn't open either, check your internet connection first.

2. Verify the server address: The incoming and outgoing server must be mail.gelecekint.com. A typo (like mai., gelecekint.co) causes a timeout.

3. Check the port settings:

Incoming (IMAP)port 143
Outgoing (SMTP)port 587
EncryptionNone / off

When a wrong port is entered (e.g. 993 for incoming or 465 for outgoing), or when SSL/TLS is on, the connection can't be established and you get a timeout.

4. Firewall / antivirus: The security software or firewall on your computer may be blocking the mail ports (143/587). Temporarily turn off the antivirus's "email protection / SSL scanning" feature and try again; if the problem is resolved, allow the relevant ports.

5. Network/carrier block: Some workplace networks and mobile carriers restrict non-standard ports. Try a different network: for example mobile data instead of Wi-Fi (or vice versa). If the problem only happens on one network, the block is on that network; ask your network administrator to open ports 143 and 587.

6. VPN and proxy: An active VPN or proxy can slow the connection and cause a timeout. Try turning it off temporarily.

Quick checklist:

  1. Does webmail open? (If yes, the problem is in the program)
  2. Is the server mail.gelecekint.com?
  3. Are the ports 143 / 587, with encryption off?
  4. Is an antivirus/firewall blocking it?
  5. Does it work on a different network?

If the timeout persists even after trying all of these, write to destek@gelecekint.com stating the program you use, your operating system, and the network you're connecting from (home/workplace/mobile). Let's verify access to the server and the port status together.
