My Emails Are Arriving Late

If the mail you're expecting starts arriving minutes or even hours later, we can find the source of the problem by narrowing it down step by step. Delays usually come from how often the email program checks, a connection problem, or the sender's server.

1. Compare with webmail: Log in at https://mail.gelecekint.com. If mail appears in webmail on time but reaches your program late, the problem is not on the server but in your program's settings. If it also appears late in webmail, the delay is on the sender's side or in transit.

2. Adjust the check frequency: Many email programs check for new mail every 10-30 minutes by default. This is the most common cause of delay.

  1. Go into your program's account settings.
  2. Find the "check for new messages" or "sync frequency" value.
  3. Set it to every 1-5 minutes or choose "automatic/push".

3. Make sure you are using IMAP: If your account is set up as POP, mail only downloads when the program is opened/checked. IMAP (incoming mail.gelecekint.com port 143) stays continuously synced with the server, so it shows mail faster.

4. Internet and device status: A phone's "battery saver" mode can stop background mail fetching and delay notifications. Exempt the mail app from battery optimization. Weak Wi-Fi or "work offline" mode also causes delays.

5. Spam filter check: Some mail is examined first and may land in the folder with a slight delay. Check the Spam and Junk folders too.

6. The delay may be on the sender's side: The mail's headers show the transfer times between servers. The delay may stem from the sender's server delivering the mail late; in that case the fix is on the sender's side.

When to write to us: If mail consistently and noticeably appears late even in webmail, write to destek@gelecekint.com with the date-time and sender of a sample delayed mail. We will examine the delivery queue and logs on the server side and pinpoint where the delay is occurring.
