Troubleshooting Internet Connection Problems (Step by Step)

When your internet goes down, the problem is usually solved with a few simple checks. Follow the steps in order.

1. Basic checks:

  1. Look at the modem lights; if the Internet/WAN light is red or off, there may be a line issue.
  2. Make sure the cables (especially WAN/DSL) are firmly plugged in.
  3. Check whether the problem is on one device or all devices.

2. Restart: Turn off the modem and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on, and wait 2-3 minutes. Restart your device as well.

3. Test the connection type: Try a wired (Ethernet) connection instead of Wi-Fi. Try your phone's mobile data to determine whether the problem is the line or the device.

4. Device checks: Make sure airplane mode is off and Wi-Fi is on; connect to the correct network with the correct password; try a different website.
