Wi-Fi Signal and Coverage Problems

A weak Wi-Fi signal in some areas causes drops and slowdowns. Often the problem isn't your internet speed but the signal distribution.

1. Location: Place the modem in a central, elevated spot; keep it in the open and well-ventilated, away from thick walls, metal, mirrors, and large electronics.

2. Interference: Microwaves, cordless phones, and neighboring networks cause interference.

3. Frequency/channel:

  1. If it's dual-band, use 5 GHz for close range/high speed and 2.4 GHz for long range/through walls.
  2. From the router panel, switch the 2.4 GHz channel to a less-used one (1, 6, or 11).

4. Extend coverage: For large areas a mesh system is the most effective; a range extender or powerline adapter carries the signal to distant rooms; if your modem is old, upgrade to Wi-Fi 5/6.

5. Number of devices: Performance drops when many devices are connected; disconnect the ones you're not using. If you still have dead zones, you may need a mesh/additional access point suited to your space; email the size and the problem areas to destek@gelecekint.com.
