PHP is the language that many applications, including WordPress, run on. An up-to-date PHP version provides both speed and security; however, older themes/plugins may be incompatible.

1. In cPanel, open Select PHP Version (or MultiPHP Manager).
2. Check the relevant domain.
3. Choose the target version (8.1/8.2 is recommended for current projects).
4. Click Apply.

After the change, test the home page, subpages, wp-admin, and any form/payment features. If you get a white screen or an error, a plugin/theme is usually incompatible; revert to the previously working version, then update it and try again. Take a full backup before upgrading and make sure the required extensions (mysqli, curl, gd) are enabled.
